Providing incentives for prudent extraction of biological resources, sea farming and sea ranching were some of the suggestions made by the speakers. The participants also expressed concern on the lack of infrastructure and incentives in India to pursue specialized research in marine biology. It was felt that India should revitalize its 200-year tradition of marine biodiversity inventorying. The symposium concluded with drafting of a road map for action based on the above conclusions.
